Emotion Pathway® for Schools

Helping children and young people deal with the emotional impact of difficult experiences

Children don't always have the words to explain what's affecting them.

Emotion Pathway® gives schools a practical framework to help children work with the emotional response connected to difficult experiences, without requiring them to tell the whole story.

What if we could help earlier?

Emotional distress and dysregulation can show up as anxiety, overwhelm, withdrawal, changes in behaviour, difficulty concentrating or reluctance to attend school.

Emotion Pathway® gives schools something practical they can use earlier, helping children work with the emotional response, rather than only managing it when it appears.

A simple 5R framework

Emotion Pathway® gives children a simple process they can learn, remember and use:

Recognise • Reassure • Release • Return • Reflect

The Release stage uses The Manse Method® to work directly with the emotional response connected to the experience.

They don’t have to tell the story

Emotion Pathway® is content-free. A child can work with what is affecting them without having to disclose or repeatedly talk through the details of what happened.

The memory remains. The emotional response can change.

More than another coping strategy

Emotion Pathway® goes beyond helping children recognise or manage difficult emotions.

It gives them a practical process they can use to help change the emotional response connected to what is affecting them.

Designed to fit within school life

Emotion Pathway® can be used within pastoral, SEND and wellbeing support, giving trained staff a practical framework to use with children when emotional experiences are affecting them.

The approach is structured, content-free and designed to work alongside existing safeguarding and support pathways.

Tested in a real school environment

Emotion Pathway® has already been introduced within a school setting, helping us understand how the framework can be used practically with children and integrated into existing school support.

This early work is helping shape the wider school model.

What could earlier intervention change?

Children don’t need to wait until emotional experiences begin affecting their learning, behaviour or everyday life before having something practical they can use.

Emotion Pathway® gives them a skill they can learn early, and continue using as they grow.
